Health Tracks: Diagnosing Pancreatitis Before It's Too Late
Researchers from the University of California, Davis recently set out to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of a new blood test for pancreatitis and compare it to several other blood tests that might be useful in detecting the disease. Learn more about this research success.
Featured Grant: Improving Cataract Surgery Outcomes
Cataracts are the most common cause of blindness in dogs and occurs in all breeds of dogs. Surgery can restore normal vision. However, the most common complication to surgery is posterior capsular opacification (PCO), which results in secondary vision loss. There is currently no consistently effective treatment for canine PCO. Researchers at Ohio State University are evaluating whether the drug Cyclosporin A, when used after cataract surgery can prevent canine PCO and restore long term vision to dogs. Health Tips: Dehydration and Overheating in Dogs
Dehydration and overheating are potentialy serious if left untreated. However both can be prevented by recognizing early warning signs. While field dogs are especially vulnerable, these conditions can impact all dogs. In the event that your dog does become dehydrated or overheated immediate action is necessary. Read more.
