National Parent Club Canine Health Conference
The 12th biennial AKC Canine Health Foundation
National Parent Club Canine Health Conference was held in St. Louis, MO on
August 9-11, 2019. Sponsored by Purina, the conference provided a unique
opportunity for canine health researchers, parent club members, veterinarians,
and veterinary students to interact and discuss the latest findings in canine
health research, including sessions on the canine gut microbiome, cancer, autoimmune disease, and genetics.
Dr. Anita Oberbauer receives the 2019 Asa Mays, DVM Excellence in Canine Health Research Award
Anita Oberbauer, PhD, Professor of Animal Science and
Associate Dean in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the
University of California, Davis, was awarded the 2019 Asa Mays, DVM Excellence in
Canine Health Research Award in recognition for her extensive work on the genetic basis of
health disorders in dogs.
AKC Canine Health Foundation staff attended the AKC
Detection Dog Conference in Durham, NC on August 27-29, 2019 to learn more
about the challenges and progress in meeting the demand for American-bred scent
detection dogs.
David Hopkins was a member of AKC Canine Health Foundation’s
Board of Directors and a tireless champion for dogs and canine health. This
month, he passed in peace after a brave and hard-fought battle against cancer.
Established in 1995, the AKC Canine Health Foundation's (CHF) mission is to advance the health of all dogs and their owners by funding scientific research and supporting the dissemination of health information to prevent, treat and cure canine disease.
